Learning to breathe

SELFPOETRY

I met my lungs today
For perhaps the first time

How long had they been imprisoned
By the tightness sitting on my chest?
How have I lived so long without this peace- letting my worries squeeze the life out of me?

Longer than I can remember
Maybe since I was born

Not anymore
Not now

I can breathe deeply now
Without effort
I can feel the air fill my entire body
Not just my lungs

I didn't know you could enjoy breathing
Each inhale and exhale feels like a victory
A Celebration

I am alive.
